Hello, my name is Ryan, and I am a white, neurodivergent male. I strive to create a collaborative therapeutic experience that honors you as the expert of your own story. My goal is to do this through a person-centered lens while utilizing Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) practices.
My hope is that this approach will allow you to find a helpful alignment between your internally held beliefs and goals in the context of your current situation. I believe that this increased sense of congruence allows all of us to achieve more than we believe is possible. In my approach, the counselor’s role is to be a supportive facilitator. I hope to empower you—my client—through cooperatively uncovering strengths, providing new coping mechanisms, and reconnecting you with your innate ability to heal.
I have struggled with anxiety, grief, ADHD, and depression on my journey in life so far. I was diagnosed with ADHD as an adult, so through my lived experience I understand what it feels like to be a square peg trying to fit into a round hole. However, without these experiences and parts of myself I wouldn’t be me, and I share this with you to bring my authentic self into the therapy room. My hope is that by sharing this, it will help me provide as safe a space as possible where you can feel welcome to explore your multifaceted identities without masking or pretending to be a round peg.
As my work continues in the mental health space I strive to practice with cultural humility and acknowledge the impact that systemic issues have on all of us. I am open to diving into conversations related to cultural identity and systemic barriers that are relevant for you. I look forward to serving those in my community, and I am especially passionate to assist people working through grief, anxiety, depression, identity shifts, and life transitions. I am committed to being a strong ally to the LBTQIA+ community. Whatever you may be experiencing, I am excited to guide you towards your goals.
My background is in education where I was able to support individuals through their personal development. I’m excited to continue advocating for folks in this role as a Mental Health Intern with Alive Counseling Clinic as I complete my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. In my personal life, I enjoy spending my time exploring the outdoors with my puppy and wife, mushroom foraging, and camping.
Ryan comes to us from Bushnell University’s Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program. He accepts PacificSource OHP as well as wellness-rate sliding scale.
